How to remove the FUEL TANK from your Chevy/GMC Square Body GM truck 1980 [Wrench At Home]
In this video we'll show you how te remove the fuel tank from a 1980 GM GMC/Chevy #Squarebody truck. A relatively easy job which you can do by yourself, but getting a friend or relative to help you will make the job easier, and more fun. The fuel tank itself is being held in place by two tank straps, which are attached to the frame rails with 4 large bolts each.
The reason why I'm removing my tank is because I have this annoying issue where my fuel gauge needle is pointing way past full. This is probably caused by a bad ground connection somewhere. Because the fuel sending unit is a pain to get to, and because there is a lot of welding to be done inside the cab (right above the fuel tank),...

How to install BUMPERETTES on a Chevy/GMC Truck | 1980 Squarebody Bumper Guards [Wrench At Home]
Просмотров 3,7 тыс.2 года назад
In this video I'm going to be mounting #Bumperettes to the front bumper of my 1980 GMC Sierra #Squarebody truck! A while ago I managed to snag a brand new set of bumperettes, or bumper guards if you will, for my truck on eBay. These are pretty rare, and are labeled as what you call "New Old Stock", which means they are old but have never been sold before and are still untouched in their origina...

How to fix HARD CLOSING DOORS on a Chevy GMC Squarebody by replacing STRIKER BOLTS [Wrench At Home]
Просмотров 13 тыс.2 года назад
Today I'm working on my 1980 #GMC #Squarebody #Stepside truck again, and I have a short and sweet episode for you. A common problem with these older trucks is that the doors won't shut properly, unless you Hulk smash them closed. Most of the time the reason this happens has something to do with the door striker bolts. They have (or had) plastic bushings on them, but they are often worn out or e...

How to install SILL PLATES in a Squarebody GMC/Chevy c10 Truck video • EASY! [Wrench At Home]

In this video I will be installing plastic #sill #plates in my 1980 #Squarebody truck! A simple job that basically only requires a small metal drill and a screwdriver. They don't really have a function other than looking good, and before I added them I always had the feeling something was missing. Clean 1980 Squarebody GMC truck FIRST WASH after winter video - Cleaning the beast! [Wrench At Home]
Просмотров 1823 года назад
In this short but sweet video I clean my #Squarebody Chevy/GMC #truck for the first time since the winter. It had a lot of dirt and grime buildup, which also protected it during wintertime with all the salt on the roads, but today it was the perfect cloudy/rainy weather to do something about all that. I used two separate buckets: one with a grit guard, hot water and some Meguiar's Ultimate Wash...

Old vid i know. But do i have to use any sealants on them? I have a 76 with a 350.
On the ones I used in the video you don’t need any sealant.
geweldige video heeft echt geholpen toen ik het zelfde ging doen bij een c10
Bedankt man!
Is there anyway you could give me the part number to these gaskets? Every set I get does not fit correctly and these look like they would fit perfectly
Sure, the part/model number is 1628, I got them on Amazon. There is also a link to the Amazon listing in the video description. Good luck!
Did you find the issue with the fuel gauge? I’ve got the same problem. Thanks for the tank drop video. Really helpful!
Not yet, but it’s probably a bad ground or the sending unit gone bad. I plan on replacing them both when the tank goes back in, so fingers crossed, lol. Thanks for watching!
@@WrenchAtHome Agreed. There are some great videos on here that explain how to bench test the sending unit and also the gauge in the dash. I was hoping for a simple bad ground connection to the frame, but alas, cleaned it up and no fix.
Anyone know where to get the gaskets 1:28 only??
Anyone know where I can buy the rubber gasket strips at 1:28?? All places that sell them new, they don't come with them.
Should the words "pushrod side" be facing up?
Yes, although I don’t think it matters that much because they’re pretty symmetrical.
Wouldn't hurt to raise the jack stands a couple of notches
Got a 1984 3500 dually and she's got a 1995 350 engine but it's leaking from tge left valve cover gasket pretty bad oil all over that side and the rear main seal. I'll definitely give this a try to stop tge valve cover leak
Sounds like an awesome machine, good luck!
When I install my felpro gasket’s will I have to put silicone on the gasket or should I just slap them on and run them?
No silicone application needed, just slap them on. These gaskets already have a molded silicone layer installed from factory.
Bro you cant say "bring out the big guns" then whip the Ryobi Home Depot $99 special out like that. Nah i'm jking good video man thanks for showing how to get the straps off.
Lol, thanks man! (For me it’s a serious upgrade compared to a hand ratchet)
The spark plug wires are backwards! The pre installed boot goes to the spark plug.
The splitter looks really good
Just a tip. It’s always easier to tilt the bed aswell to get the gas tank out. It goes by faster. ❤
Nice truck 😎

Bumper guards are a must!
Thanks Boys. Just getting into my 85 stepside resto. This was awesome info. Cheers from Canada ehhh :-)
Thank you, good luck!
Thanks for this video even though I'm 2 years late to the party. I was going nuts trying to figure out the issue with my 1979 GMC Sierra 15 Heavy Half. Again Thanks!!!!
Thanks man! Sweet truck too! I just brought home a 78 Cheyenne so I think I'm going to be watching a lot of your videos :)
I just chucked some of these off my build. Didnt know people liked these
Thank you! I'm thinking of doing all these things to my hanway do you think this is a full service? Or do I need to do more?
I think the only thing a bike shop will do extra, especially for new bikes, is checking the tension (and adjust where necessary) of the spokes in your wheels. Other than that, I’d consider this a full service, yeah!
@@WrenchAtHomeThat's great to hear! Did you also do (kleppen regelen)? To your bike?
No, I didn’t do that, didn’t feel like that was necessary.
Awesome video! About to replace dual tanks on our 87!
Where were the AC spark plugs made? I ordered a set of AC R43 plugs from Summit and they were marked "Made in China." There is no way I am going to install Chinese plugs into my classic 1970 Corvette, so I returned them to Summit and went to an O'Reilly's and bought some NGKs. They work great and NGKs are all I use in my classic cars.
Lol guys please wear safety glasses next time!!
I like mini bike. Bought something similar and will get next week. Can't be bothered getting a full motorcycle license, so back to brommer/ mini bike riding.
Hi, I have the same issue, I replaced my battery, alternator, ground cables. According to my multi meter everything is working and battery is charging. But I still show low voltage on my gauge. Did your gauge jump back up to 14?
Hi, replacing the alternator plug did fix the issue for me. Voltage is around 13/14, but only with the engine running.
Looks good .where did you get door panels their nice.i need some for mine.
Thanks! Honestly, those door panels are the (presumably) original ones, re-wrapped with fake leather. Look good from a distance, but when you see them up close they are really rough. I will replace them some time in the future, probably order some from LMCtruck.com!
Anybody knows how to change the complete backlight package? It is screwed to the rear fender from within the fender, but the screws are invisible?
If I recall correctly there's an inner and outer fender. The outer is the coloured part , the inner a black plastic piece.
@@doktermobiel Thanks, I will look into it.😀
Dope have tonget that done on my 2018 300 after just installing a new alternator
Great video, I just installed these same gaskets on my 63 Chevy. They finally stopped my sweaty valve covers😎👍🏽
Happy it helped you, thanks for watching!
One question bro, we’re both wires the same gauge or was one gauge wire bigger than the other?
I’d say the red wire is slightly thicker, but the difference ain’t much.. that is going off the Amazon product image (link in video description). If you really want to know I can measure them for you.
@@WrenchAtHome well did it fix your charging issue? What was happening to it?
Yes, replacing the plug fixed my problem!
@@WrenchAtHome so on my Malibu the red wire is thicker than the black one, my question is, on the new plug do the wires have to be the same gauge on the harness or not?
Same gauge would be best, yes. If the wires on the plug are thicker then that’s okay too, as long as they are not thinner than the wires in your car you’re good. The plug I used is an official replacement part so as long as your wiring in the car is stock the part should work just fine!
Moai filmke wer!
Thanks Symen!
Looking forward to your next video about restoring the fuel tank!
thank, you for you're video. [RANDOM VANNERS. EAST COAST VA. 2%]
thank, you.
Great video man just rebuilt a 350 for my 57 belair plug wires are a mess
Thanks man I appreciate it. Love the 57 Bel Air!
Move the henges on the door
Hi, please what is the outer diameter of the new plastic insert. I would make it myself at home. Thank you
I don't know where you are from, but I've seen a lot of peope using PEX tube as a replacement for the plastic bushing, you could get that at Home Depot. The sizing would be a 3/4" long piece of 1/2" diameter. Thanks for watching!
@@WrenchAtHome Hi, I'm from Czech Republic. Europe. I have a C10 Cheyenne. I will look for the tube in our hobby shops. Thank you for the advice. -)
Nice! Alright, so that must be metric system, 1/2" is 12,7 millimeters diameter. I think PVC tube will work as well. Good luck!
Great video, where did you find them. I'm looking for a set for my 87 Ford f150. I think it makes the truck. If you can let me know where you purchased them. Thank you
Thanks man! I got them off eBay, but they don't come up that often. I used the Saved Searches feature which notifies you by email if a new item that matches your search criteria is posted. Try something like "nos bumper guards ford f150" and then check if the results match the year of your truck. Sometimes they fit a range of years. Good luck with the search and thank you for watching!
@@WrenchAtHome yeah they look nice on your truck. I been looking for a while, I found a used set in decent shape. I'll try to polish them up, if that don't work I'll have them re chromed, there in the mail now. Thank you for getting back to me
sweeet stepside!
cool video, but these are impossible to get .
Thank you! Yes, finding a good pair (for a good price) can be a pain, but it is definitely possible!
A lot of times the problem with closing these doors after replacing weather seals is that the air can not escape because the cab does not have a vent to relieve pressure. Open a window and see if you get the same result.
That is a great tip, thanks!
My rust holes are my vents:\
When you have a close fit between the exhaust and the plug you can use a tubing wrench to lossen and tighten the spark plug. You are missing the wire hold down that goes on the distributor.
Man...I have learnt a lot from you watching your videos. Thanks for sharing
Thanks, that means a lot! Thank you for watching!
The original lighter socket has one wire only.
I use an offset box end wrench same plug location.
$9.95 per side isn’t a bad price to pay for smooth closing doors. Subscribed
TO ANYBODY WATCHING: Would you kindly tell me which of your tools DOES fit into the Torx ("Star") fitting on your door striker correctly? (T50 won't go in, T47 much too loose, no such thing as a size 47 Torx Plus.) I have the original striker, GM brand.)
I just used a pipe wrench cause I stripped mine
@@jae.boucher1296 Yep, that's what I wound up doing eventually. Took that sucker off like it was rocket-driven, Man!
Actually looks like a standard Allen wrench would fit
I own a 78 C10 I'll be replacing the valve cover gaskets in the near future, this video sure will help. Thank you for this.
You’re very welcome, good luck with replacing yours!
@@WrenchAtHome I was considering selling after I do a bit of touch up work to it but everytime I drive it I reconsider, I absolutely love having no computers telling the vehicle what to do or not. Plus I was born in 75 and always have had older vehicles, I'm torn on what to do lol
Yeah I get what you mean, driving an older truck definitely has it's charms! I would only sell mine if I desperately needed the money, but that's me lol
@@WrenchAtHome that's what happens, I see all the work I'd need to do to get it where I would like it to be. After that I think if selling it to a good home to someone that would appreciate it. Then I take it for a ride and love it's old school feel I get torn. Nothing beats the 350ci 4bbl with true dual exhaust and no catalytic converters lol
How the gaskets so far?
I just installed my new covers with those gaskets and passenger side is leaking in the rear not crazy but it does have a small leak.
Hey man, that should not be happening, these are high quality and pretty expensive gaskets. Did you try tightening them a little bit more on the leaky side? Because of the thick rubber layer on these type of gaskets they can be tightened pretty good. I see you used new covers and I assume they aren't bent or warped. Did you clean the surface on the engine side and removed any leftover silicone before installing? You could try to add some sealant to get rid of the leak, but that shouldn't be necessary with these gaskets.. There is of course a very small change the gasket itself is leaking, in that case you could try to get a replacement at the store you bought these. Good luck and let me know if and how you fixed it!
